Jerry
Brown, 79 Governor of California has made history after being sworn in on Monday
for a record fourth and final time at
the helm of the nation’s most populous state.
Since his
return as governor, Brown has been credited with helping stabilize state
finances. California's general-fund spending has grown 25 percent in the past
four years,
fueled by a statewide economic recovery and the passage of a
temporary tax increase.
Brown is California’s
longest-serving and oldest-ever sitting governor. He first came into office
when Jerry Ford was President his first time around serving from 1975 to 1983
before term limits were implemented and returned for his third term in 2011.
He
is barred by term limits from seeking another term in 2018. He has said he will
not run for president in 2016, having failed three times before, most recently
in 1992.
