Head of Hawks suspended for 60 days

Head of Hawks, Lt. Gen Anwa Dramat has been placed on a 60 days precautionary suspension pending an investigation into his alleged involvement in facilitation of the illegal rendition of Zimbabweans in November 2010.

Numerous rendition survivors came forward four years ago and accused Dramat of being involved in the apprehension and deportation of Zimbabwe’s most-wanted criminals.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate(IPID) confirmed more than a year ago that it was investigating Dramat along with Gauteng Hawks head Shadrack Sibiya for their alleged involvement.

Ipid spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the allegations had been probed and the findings handed to the National Prosecuting Authority earlier this year.
