Hip hop
star 50 Cent real name Curtis Jackson III, who Forbes business magazine in May
put his net worth $140 Million has had his personal account frozen after he
failed to pay a $17.2 million judgment to Florida earphone manufacturer Sleek
Audio.
50 Cents
and Sleek Audio had partnered to produce the rapper's line of over-the-ear
headphones.
The audio
company in court documents accused Jackson of stealing the designs of the
headphones he asked them to conceptualize and manufacture.
Jackson
has been selling headphones of a similar design under the 50-Over line with
Florida manufacturer SMS Audio since breaking with Sleek in 2011. Sleek
filed a suit a while back claiming 50 Cent tried to market their design on his
own - effectively stealing their original idea.
An
arbitrator in July ruled against Jackson and damages in the case were based on
SMS net profits over three years. Since he's failed to hand over the cash,
Sleek has legally been allowed to garnish his wages and freeze his bank
accounts.
