South
Africa’s President Jacob Zuma is in Maputo, Mozambique ahead of the
inauguration of Mozambique President-elect Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.
"South
Africa and Mozambique enjoy strong historical ties based on geographical
proximity and the role played by Mozambique in providing solidarity during the
struggle against apartheid and colonial oppression," Presidential spokesman
Mac Maharaj said in a statement.
Nyusi, from
the ruling Frelimo party, was elected last October as the southern African
country's fourth president since its independence in 1975. He won 57 percent of
the vote in the October presidential election.
Mr Nyusi replaces incumbent
President Armando Guebuza, also from Frelimo, who has served a maximum two
terms as President since 2005.
