South African crowned Miss World


Rolene Strauss, 22, was crowned Miss World 2014 at the 64th annual competition’s glittering grand final ceremony held at the Excel London ICC Auditorium.

 This make her the first Miss World titleholder from South Africa in 40 years and the first to win the competition in more than 55 years.

Strauss, is the daughter of a doctor and a nurse. She is a fourth-year medical student at the University of the Free State. She put her studies on hold after being crowned Miss South Africa in March.

The beauty queen competed with 121 other contestants for the title this year and inherits the crown from Miss World 2013, Megan Young of Philippines.


 Miss Hungary Edina Kulcsar was named runner-up, while Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit came third in the contest.
