A power
plant in China, announced that it began burning piles of cash to generate
electricity.
The power plant in Luoyang, Henan, is burning old and worn banknotes instead of coal for the first time to generate electricity.
A spokesperson for the power plant said that one ton of cash can generate over 600 kWh of electricity. It is environmentally friendly than burning coal.
The central bank of the country, the People's Bank of China, has given the go ahead for the notes to be burned, and said that it is an efficient way to produce electricity.
Experts estimate that with the discarded paper money the company can generate 1,320,000 kWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to burning 4,000 tons of coal.
