Bomb blast in Jos, Nigeria

Two bombs exploded on Thursday evening in Jos, Nigeria .The first blast went off at an indoor food stand while the other at a nearby entrance to a terminus market. The attack took place shortly after 6pm local time (17.00 GMT) near a site where a similar attack occurred last year as store owners were shutting down their shops.

Reuter’s reporter counted 11 bodies at one bomb site and 29 at the other.Eye witness Tanko Mohammed said “I saw a flash of light and heard a loud boom. Afterwards there was debris everywhere and mutilated bodies."

The number of attacks has risen sharply since then, in the run-up to elections in February 2015. The blast happened the same day that the ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition, All Progressive Congress (APC) officially named their presidential candidates.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.
