Pauline
Cafferkey, 39, a Scottish NHS nurse diagnosed with Ebola, is now in critical
condition despite attempts to save her life using an experimental drug and
convalescent plasma from a survivor to help fight the deadly disease in Royal Free Hospital, London.
Royal
Free Hospital told the BBC:it was “sorry to
announce that the condition of Pauline Cafferkey has gradually deteriorated
over the past two days.”
Cafferkey
caught the deadly virus while volunteering with Save the Children in a
government-funded clinic in Sierra Leone, despite the use of protective
equipment and strict infection controls.
She flew
out to Freetown in November with four other Scottish volunteers and a
contingent of 30 NHS staff from around the UK as part of a government-funded
project.
On
Saturday British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Twitter: "My
thoughts and prayers are
with nurse
Pauline Cafferkey who is in a critical condition with Ebola.
