No publicity is bad publicity: Sony’s movie “The Interview” rakes in $15million

Following an embarrassing cyberattack and threats by hackers that led Sony pictures to pull its movie “The Interview” from theaters and the battle of words between North Korea and the U.S government, the attention of people worldwide was drawn to what could have made Sony pictures get cold feet and cancel its movie. In the end the comedy received widespread publicity throughout the episode.

Now Sony’s pictures “The Interview” is the No.1 online movie ever released by Sony pictures raking in $15million in the first four days of its release. The four-day revenue follows two million rentals and purchases on YouTube, Google Play, XBox Live and also the standalone site SeeTheInterview.com.

Sony is likely to reap larger receipts. The company's first online revenue figures do not include Apple's iTunes purchases or rentals after Apple agreed on Sunday to carry the movie on iTunes, the biggest and most-used store of online content.
