Nigerian’s President, Goodluck Jonathan dragged to court over refusal to declare assets



Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan has been dragged to court by the Legal Defence and Assistance Project (LEDAP) seeking to compel the President, Vice President and Ministers to declare their assets.

The Federal High court in Abuja will today hear the case, the suit demands the Code of conduct Bureau to demand the declaration of asset from the public officials contending that the President in a media chat on 24th June 2012 with the Nigerian television Authority, (NTA) that he will not declare his assets publicly and that is a breach of the Constitution under Section 143 of the 1999 constitution.

The Code of Conduct Bureau filed a counter affidavit that the President and his deputy have declared their assets to the bureau and that they are not allowed to disclose the assets publicly.

The hearing on the case resumes today.
