The
Barcelona star was one of five players along with Jordi Alba, Claudio Bravo,
Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta to undergo the testing before their Champions
League tie with PSG.
However,
what upset the Argentine international is unlike the other four, he was the
only one needing to provide two samples, blood and urine. Afterwards
Messi took to his Instagram account to reveal he came under particular
scrutiny. “Doping control. Of the five chosen, I was the only one who had
to give urine and blood samples... bit strange isn’t it?" he wrote.
Spanish
authorities have denied there was anything unusual about the request for Lionel
Messi to provide two samples for drug testing on Monday.
The Spanish
Agency for Health Protection in Sport (AEPSAD),hit back at criticism from
Lionel Messi, and insisted that the Barcelona star is being treated in the same
way as any other player.
"Messi
passed his urine tests and blood tests as is normal every week for athletes in
Spain," an AEPSAD spokesman said.
