Drug Baron gets 30 years


Drug Baron, Philip Nsofor also known as Lion of Alberton or Stranger has been sentenced by Benoni Regional Court to 30 years in Prison. The sentence was handed down to him on the 12 of December to Nsofor who supplied drugs to Alberton, Germiston and Robertsham.

Alberton Records reports that Nsofor had in effect been sentenced to 81 years on the different charges, of which 30 years must be served in prison.

According to the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer R C Veldman and state prosecutor, Johan Badenhorst of the DPPhandling this case, this is the highest sentence in South Africa ever handed down in a drug-related case.

Nsofor was found guilty on charges of racketeering, participation in an enterprise, managing an enterprise, dealing in drugs and contradiction of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002, police said.

Nsofor had operated in cocaine and methamphetamine tablets from his cellphone shop in Parklands Avenue in Alberton North, police said.


 Nsofor was caught during a joint SAPS-Brazilian operation, when he was collecting a consignment of cocaine in Brazil. He was allowed to return to South Africa with the drugs hidden in a painting.
